Does rooting change your phone behavior ?

Does rooting change your phone behavior in any way, I know it enhance your phone's performance but can I still be able to use it normaly like calling and texting and download apps from Google app store like everyone else does or do you need new methods to use your phone after rooting ?

and which apps do you recommend downloading on a rooted android :confused:
