Hello,
I am fairly new to installing new roms on my phone and it seems that I've come across a little bump on the road.
Let me tell you what happend.
I did a clean install on my HTC One (M7) after unlocking the device and everything. I had removed everything from my device and installed some google rom, I thought this one should be good. It wasn't. It was developed for a phone with onscreen buttons, so my buttons were obsolete. Now a second annoying thing happend, xmodgames stopped working properly.
Now my question is:
I want to do a CLEAN install (everything removed) of a STOCK ROM. I don't know anything about extensions (.RUU, .ZIP, .IMG are all the same to me, can anyone explain without using too many tech-words?) and I am, as I said before, new to this sort of thing.
Q1: What is the difference between FLASHING a ROM or INSTALLING a ROM?
Q2: What is the difference from installing from sdcard or installing from sideload?
Q3: Where can I get a stock ROM for HTC One (M7) (Can't seem to find an easy download link, that's all I need)
Q4: I started to install a ROM through sideload but the following message appears (I have already wiped the partitions and cache and everything): 'E: Can't open /tmp/update.zip' I used the following command in my terminal './adb-mac sideload ViperOne+9.0.0-fix.zip'.
Q5: Do I root my phone before or after installing the ROM and will it stay rooted after wiping the phone (I guess not, but I had it rooted so I'm hoping I won't have to go through that again).
I hope I'm not too annoying for these forums. I have read a lot on the internet already, but after a couple of hours of searching and not getting any further with this I wanted to clear these things up so that I know what I am doing. I have got some experience with installing OS's on pc's and I've studied Artificial Intelligence for a couple of years, but this 'phone-hacking' seems to be too far fetched for me for some reason.
Thanks for reading and I hope I'll get some answers :D!
