Rooting after some years - help with basics

Hello,

i am back to rooting, because i want to check the latest Cyanogen.
Last time i rooted was with Moto Milestone, and thus i forgot probably some of the basics.

Is there an easy way now to root and install Cyanogen? I went to Cyanogen wiki, but seems to be even more complicated than before, based on their instructions.
