Hi guys, I'm looking for some help for my girlfriends S3. I have experience flashing many different types of android phones but this one is turning out to be a real pickle. I'll give you all the whole story so you can understand.
A couple days ago she said her phone battery was dying at an alarming rate, she would unplug at 100% and almost 30mins later it would be at 65%. Obviously I suspected a wakelock and I was right, Android System (or one of the android things) did indeed keep her phone awake for about 8hrs (end of the day) Yesterday when she tried to charge the phone an error message saying that the phone or battery was to hot and charging was not possible so her battery died. I got a spare from my cousin but this one has been lying idle for about a year.
When I try charging the battery with the phone off it indicates that it is almost full, when I try to start the phone the samsung logo comes up and I can see her home screen for about a second and then the phone switches off. Keep in mind that I can not start the phone with just the battery in it, it must be plugged in.
Here is the kicker too, she knows nothing about rooting, flashing etc. but on her phone I did see as if someone tried to install root (I'm not sure which method it is but someone definitely tried, maybe one of her nephews) A while back the phone getting another wakelock and I did a regular system reset hoping that everything would be wiped. The root file/app was still on the phone :/
Fast forward to yesterday when I said I'll try actually flashing the phone with odin. The sticker on the back says i9300 but when I go into odin mode I see the phone is a T999 and that the counter is 3. I ignored this and proceeded to reflash the i9300 recovery but presto I can't get into recovery mode anymore. I did download the T999 recovery also and I will flash that today and see if it works. So a couple questions:
1) Is this phone a i9300 or a T999
2) Is something wrong with the phone, given that the other battery does not start the phone or is it that battery has a problem as well.
3) How is it that she knows nothing about flashing but the binary counter is on 3.
Any help will be appreciated guys. Today I'll go to the store and see if I can get another battery and if the phone would boot.
