Nabi device source code

Over the years we have asked Fuhu/Nabi for the source for Nabi2, NabiJR, NabiXD, Dreamtab, etc. A year or more ago they released the source for the Nabi2, NabiXD, and JR. Unfortunately the kernel source was nothing more then a snap shot of the kernel anyone could get but no board specific code, or even a defconfig. I have continued to politely ask over the years and they just released for the Nabi2S, Dreamtab, and BigTab. It still looks quite rough but I am pleased to announce with a little hacking to what they released and I was able to build a booting kernel for the Dreamtab(see attached). I also contacted them back, and asked if they could revisit the code for the Nabi2, JR, and XD. We will see what transpires but it's the best effort they have put forth to date.

Is the Moto X Play a Dual LTE device?

Hey!
Are each sim slots 4G capable in the dual sim variant? Because I have an LG G3 currently and the thing is only one slot is 4G capable, the other one is restricted to 2G (which just kills the point of a dual sim device for me).
Thanks in advance!

Virtual device related

I am learning how to develop android apps. So to debug, I need a device. I tried Genymotion, but it is not working on my PC. So instead, I set up a virtual device on virtualbox and that is running pretty good, but I don't know how to connect it to Android Studio for debugging and testing purposes. Please help me out. If irrelevant, delete the post. Thank you in advance.:)

How to read key codes from input device?

I've been playing PC games on my phone using the Remotr app and a Moga Pro Power 2 controller. It's pretty awesome, but the deadzones on the sticks are ridiculous. I have to push the sticks almost a quarter of the way before it gets a response.

I discovered that in /system/usr/keylayout there are lots of *.kl files that correspond to devices on your phone. However, there are no files directly associated with the Moga, which has a vendor id 20d6 and device id 6271 according to /proc/bus/input/devices. So theoretically, there should be a Vendor_20d6_Product_6271.kl file.....but there isn't. Nor are there any other files listed here on the Android Developer Documentation.

So I adjusted the 'flat' values on controller axis, and named the file Vendor_20d6_Product_6271.kl .....but nothing has changed, no matter how low I set it.

I need to go back and make sure that the axis that I'm adjusting are correct, but I can't figure out how to look at how to double check this.

Alternatively, I might be editing the wrong file or have named my .kl file incorrectly, so if anyone could advise a way to make sure the file I think is getting called is actually getting called, would also be great.

Device Encryption

So, of course last year the Nexus 6 had encryption turned on by default and developers argued that they software based encryption slowed the phone down considerably. I know that some people ended up turning off encryption and saw significant improvements in the speed of the device as a result.

The question is then, and I have not been able to find any definitive answers on this.

1. Will the Nexus 6P come with encryption on by default?
2. Is encryption software based or hardware based now?
3. Will the 64 Bit processor alleviate performance issues caused by software based encryption?

Issues Returning Rooted and S-Off'ed Device to Stock

I have a GPE ROM running device that's S-Off, bootloader unlocked and rooted, I'm trying to return it to completely stock but I'm having issues just getting it to run ADB and follow some steps -also some of these steps are conflicting so a link to an exact guide would be cool too- but I download the ADB and Fastboot drivers -through the minimal drivers download- along with the RUU I need, but my laptop won't recognize the device when I connect it over USB. Any help is greatly appreciated

T-Mobile Device Unlock App Says Not Recognized by Service Provider

I had to send my phone into LG for repair. I am a Prepaid T-Mobile customer. Since I got the phone back, whenever I try to open the app to check on Permanent Unlock (as I have done temp in the past), the app get this error when Connecting to NetworkL:

Device not recognized by your service provider. Please call customer care.

Well, I tried using chat service on their website and all that resulted in was the person thinking they should send in an unlock request for me. I knew this was wrong. Next day I get an email from the unlock dept telling me to use the app :)

Since I figure people here tend to be smarter than a telco tech support person, I would ask here before pursuing this further with Tmo.

This is in fact the same phone I sent in...I checked the IMEI, etc.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Which processor brand to choose when buying a new device?

Hey XDA Community,

after 3 1/2 years i'll retire my Galaxy S3 and get a new phone. So far so easy.

But as a Android enthusiast, i can't just buy a new phone, it has to be a phone which offers a good hardware base for using custom roms. And what i learned in the last 3 1/2 years is that, for example, Samsungs Exynos processors are NOT a good hardware base and rom developers hate Exynos processors.

So here we come to the magic question: Which is, from a developer view, the best, and what are acceptable processor brands which allow developers to develop a rom (more precisely the "device tree") which can make use of all of the processors features and its performance?

I think the following two brands are well known among all custom rom users and don't need to be commented:
  • Exynos -> as described above, "the Antichrist"

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon -> as far as i know the Holy Grail for developers

But what about the "underdogs"? How developer friendly are the following processor brands which now appear more and more in (flagship) phones from Huawei, Xiaomi and many other smaller phone manufacturers:
  • MediaTek

  • Hisilicon Kirin

  • Nvidia Tegra

I'm excited about your experience with and recommendations for these "underdogs", especially if you are a developer! :)

Best regards,
Mika

How do I Build an Android rom for New Device?

I want to learn how to build a rom for an new device that no one has created a custom rom for. I am kinda new at this. But I want to learn how. I is there a full on guild or something on how to do it... I want to know. There are devices out there that have to custom roms yet that I would like to build for. I would like to use AOSP to build a clean fresh pure Android rom. Those devices I want to build for have the right specs to run a newer Android version but the developers did not realse an update for. I really would like to learn how to build/create my own Android rom from scratch... Learn how to build a kernel, bootloader, etc. to help the rom run right. Can anyone help?

Device Now Bootloops. What Can Be Done.

Suddenly, the thing started to bootloop. I can still use adb, boot to recovery so tried with and without Xposed active. No change.

Recurring error in logcat seems to be reading memory locations, changes each time through.

Only application upgraded before boot attempt was Lookout. Since this involves early-spawned background processes, could that be the culprit?

Or is it time to replace my trusty old LP500?

Help buying a device from outside the US from US Play Store

Device Temp.

What temp is your phones cpu, and batt at on average? I've got my phone in a defender case. At times it gets up to 70°C I think I may have seen it as high as 80°C at times. I set the kernel to throttle frequencies at 60°C just to safe for now. I'd rather have a slightly laggy phone than a melted one. Thanks for any help, and if you need more info feel free to ask.

[Q] Win10 fastboot - Doesn't work. Once worked. S1boot doesn't show up device manager

Hi,

I tried every way and guides shown here. Even disabling driver integrity checks et cetera.

Currently, there's a default stock ROM on my Xperia Z2.
I install the adb-setup-1.4.2.exe installer which installs adb / fastboot + the drivers for my X64 Win10.

Alright.
Reboot.

Then I plug in the USB cord into my turned off phone and hold Volume Up.
My phone vibrates.
I release the button.

Then in tthe Device Manager, this shows up:
Identification in Device Manager
Everytime.the.same.****ing.THING!

Anybody had the same problem?
One time, through some curious wonder, it worked. S1boot showed up and even the correct driver was instaled (back then via the adb-setup by a XDA user).
Well, what am I doing wrong?

I would be glad for any help. I've tried any troubleshooting guide there is by now and I am at the end of my knowledge.

Thanks for any help,
Michael
